A Future Broadway Hit?
Talking Daughters with Playwright Saviana Stanescu
Saviana Stanescu, my friend and most recent radio show guest
This is Emily Writes Back, a newsletter (and sometimes a podcast?) for brilliant people, from Emily Sanders Hopkins
Good day to you! I’m so happy it’s Friday. I’ve got a bathroom to paint, a dinner party to host, a book to read about how to write a book really fast (Page One to Done), and a musical in my weekend plans.
The book about how to write a book really quickly says there are three necessary legs to the stool: joy, perseverance, and trust. I hope the book can give my trust and joy a boost, because I’ve been operating on joyless, doubtful perseverance … and then perseverance dwindles too. You know, I already feel more joyful and trusting, just knowing that I’m supposed to.
My radio show!
This past Sunday, for our every-other-Sunday radio show Hello, Earthlings!, I sat down in the WRFI community radio Studio A to talk with the Romanian-born poet and playwright Saviana Stanescu and her new musical’s dramaturg Sonora Cohen-Rider.
From their description, it sounds really promising—the story of a young woman investigating her family’s past during the Argentinian Dirty War, when people were disappeared. I think I am most looking forward to hearing the original music.
Listen to the conversation:
Marshall and I just got tickets to tonight’s show, so I’ll report back. If you’re in town or will be soon, get your tickets today before they sell out. If you’re not in the area, you might be able to see this musical in a few years on Broadway. That’s the goal.
Coming Soon…
A new pantoum, recreating the great outdoors for indoor cats, a dinner party report, and 5 ways to overthrow the government.

I'm so looking forward to 5 ways to overthrow the government!
